Dynamic Effects of Trust and Cognitive Social Structures on Information Transfer Relationships
Changes in relationships are due to human actions. We assume that these human actions are functions of perceptions of a focal individual, but also the perceptions of other individuals who are part of the organizational and social environment. We hypothesize that perceptions based trust and perceptions of the structural environment individuals operate in affect relationship change more than the "actual" environment in which individuals operate. An empirically analysis shows the dynamic effects of perceptions on changes in two types of relationships, which are believed to be important in account management. We explore, 1, whether the levels of perceptions, and, 2, whether changes in perceptions affect relationship changes. For example, we consider the effects of the amount of trust as well as the change in the amount of trust one individual puts in another individual. We find that perceptions have more impact on relationship change than "actual" network variables have. Furthermore, the results show that it is useful to distinguish between level and change effects of perceptions.trust;dynamic cognitive social structures;network theory;relationship development
An Equilibrium-Correction Model for Dynamic Network Data
We propose a two-stage MRQAP to analyze dynamic network data, within the framework of an equilibrium-correction (EC) model. Extensive simulation results indicate practical relevance of our method and its improvement over standard OLS. Modeling self-organization of communication and topology in social networks
This paper introduces a model of self-organization between communication and
topology in social networks, with a feedback between different communication
habits and the topology. To study this feedback, we let agents communicate to
build a perception of a network and use this information to create strategic
links. We observe a narrow distribution of links when the communication is low
and a system with a broad distribution of links when the communication is high.
We also analyze the outcome of chatting, cheating, and lying, as strategies to
get better access to information in the network. Chatting, although only
adopted by a few agents, gives a global gain in the system. Contrary, a global

Livestock trade network: potential for disease transmission and implications for risk-based surveillance on the island of Mayotte
The island of Mayotte is a department of France, an outermost region of the European Union located in the Indian Ocean between Madagascar and the coast of Eastern Africa. Due to its close connection to the African mainland and neighbouring islands, the island is under constant threat of introduction of infectious diseases of both human and animal origin. Here, using social network analysis and mathematical modelling, we assessed potential implications of livestock movements between communes in Mayotte for risk-based surveillance. Our analyses showed that communes in the central region of Mayotte acted as a hub in the livestock movement network. The majority of livestock movements occurred between communes in the central region and from communes in the central region to those in the outer region. Also, communes in the central region were more likely to be infected earlier than those in the outer region when the spread of an exotic infectious disease was simulated on the livestock movement network. The findings of this study, therefore, suggest that communes in the central region would play a major role in the spread of infectious diseases via livestock movements, which needs to be considered in the design of risk-based surveillance systems in Mayotte
